Location: York

Overview:

Our Sales Manager Jon Nock was introduced to the hospital project by his contact at Jefferson Sheard Architects. We had worked with Chris Race, Regional Manager, on smaller healthcare projects, he pitched us to GMI Construction who were running the site construction.

The hospital is situated on the former Terry’s Chocolate factory site in York. Plans for the new facility were given the green light in October 2021, securing 145 healthcare jobs in the process.

The brain injuries unit specialises in first-class rehabilitation for those with an acquired brain injury.

GMI Construction took lead and controlled the building transformation using Jefferson Sheard Architects drawings and visual direction.

Both fantastic teams to be working alongside on this project. The Brief:

  • To manufacture bedroom furniture for over 40 bedrooms
    • Including: Bedframes, wardrobes, bedside drawers and cabinets, vanity tables
  • Manufacture other items for the hospital
    • Including: Reception desk, social area with TV backdrop, tables

The Challenge: Ensuring all bedroom furniture pieces fitted exactly to the specifications and dimensions that we had been given, because a big project such as this needed controlled management from in the office to on-site. Overall features and materials used:

  • James Latham – Plain MDF
  • Egger Light Ferrera Oak
  • Panel Co – Light Grey MDF, Light Ferrera Oak Edging

Project Management: With several visits back and forth to York, Jon managed the project both office and on-site. Our team of specialist joiners and machinists had a breakdown of every phase with deadline times. From Sales Manager to Operations Manager, the process was seamless and smooth.

Delivery: The delivery took mostly a month on and off to ensure the site had everything they required in good time. Not all of the bedroom furniture went out in one bulk, it was drip fed as soon as the rooms were ready for the installation process.

Sustainability: Did you know we are FSC Certified? We’re committed to protecting the environment and by doing this we ensure that we follow the FSC guidelines. By being a part of this, it means that the suppliers we buy the material off also follow these FSC guidelines.

Why we follow the Chain of Custody? FSC Chain of Custody certification tracks the FSC certified material through the production processes from managed forest all the way to end user allowing a “hand on heart” approach to the sustainable credentials of the products we produce, confident that they are genuinely FSC certified.
